Pauch Opens NES Roctober Weekend with 358 Modified Triumph

New Egypt, NJ (Oct. 12, 2007) -  Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, NJ
posted career win #65 at New Egypt Speedway Friday night as he raced
to victory in the 40 lap 358 Modified feature event. The win was
anything but easy for Pauch as he survived a torrid race long three
car battle to pick up the $4000 first prize.

"I tried to take it easy in the beginning when I got the lead,"
stated Pauch in victory lane, "Then Howard and Horton really started
going hard and I thought we were not going to have a car left under
us by the end, but I was given a great car and we were able to
outlast the competition."

John Keller and Pauch led the field to the start of the 40 lap main
with Pauch quickly grabbing the advantage. Second row starters Duane
Howard and Jimmy Horton wasted no time as the sped by Keller and set
sail after Pauch. Howard looked stout as he ran Pauch down before the
first yellow flew on lap 9. On the restart Howard beat Pauch to turn
one and took his turn at the front. Horton then began to challenge
Pauch for the runnerup spot as the two ran side by side for three
straight laps. Horton finally worked his way by Pauch and began his
chase of Howard. Horton then used a lap 16 restart as he grabbed the
lead for the first time. Horton would show the way for six laps
before Howard returned the favor with a nice inside move coming off
of turn four. Pauch was now starting to turn up the wick as he raced
side by side with Horton for second, both positioned directly on the
back bumper of Howard. Brett Hearn, who had been quietly running
fourth for much of the event, was now sneaking back into the act as
he made it a four car race for the lead. Then on lap 27, Jimmy Horton
slowed with mechanical problems on the backstretch. As the yellow
flag flew for Horton, Howard also broke on the homestretch ending
both drivers' night. With these two cars eliminated, Pauch found
himself back in the lead and he took advantage of this, cruising to
his second win at New Egypt this season. Hearn finished a hard earned
second while tenth starting Jason Hamilton posted a strong outing
finishing third. Rick Laubach raced to a fourth place finish while
Sportsman regular John McClelland with a fine fifth place finish.
Completing the top ten were Carmine Infante, Jimmy Chester, Rich
Scagliotta, Mark Kratz and Gary Wagner.

Heats went to Keith Hoffman, Hamilton and Horton.  Carmine Infante
took the consolation.

The SS Sprints saw Tom Wyckoff survive a tough night for the division
as only two cars finished the 17 lap shortened event. John Snook took
second place honors behind Wyckoff, who posted his second win of the

In the 15 lap Outlaw Stock feature Gary Klimeczak took his eigthth
win of the season besting three time winner Brian Ludwig. Billy
Wroble finished third, followed by Jeff Dirkes and Chris Felber.

The Crate 1 Sportsman 20 lap main was captured by first time invader
John Micek. Ryan Forte finished a strong second also in his first
ever NES appearance, while Pat Hires, Richie Cass Sr. and Mike Barone
rounded out the top five.
