"Small Car Sundays Shaping Up for the 2008 NES Season"

The ‘big’ talk as the 2008 racing season at the New Egypt Speedway quickly approaches, seems to be directed towards ‘small’ race cars. The “Small Car Sundays” theme has been drawing a vast interest in all three of the divisions that will compete at the Plumsted, NJ facility. The 600cc Micro Sprints, the Keystone Legend Tour cars, and the Xcel Chassis 600 Modified Series will compete in a seven-race series in 2008. Rounding out the action on the “Small Car Sundays” program will be the GSVSCC or the ‘Open’ vintage cars.

Last year the 600cc micro sprints made their debut in front of a Saturday night crowd and did not let anyone down with their performance. The 600 micros put on such a good show, that the were added to three later events. Bob Devault, captured the win in their first ever appearance at the track, while Jimmy Carpenter drove to two consecutive victories, and Jon Keller wrapped up the season with his October triumph.

“I’m excited to be racing at NES so many times this year. I live pretty close to the track so that’s always a plus. I think our class puts on some good racing there and I hope that many of the tri-state area teams support the 12 race series,” commented two-time winner Jimmy Carpenter.

There will be no pit license needed to race or enter the pit area during these Sunday events. However, NES does require that all drivers that wish to be eligible for the 2008 point fund must pay a one-time registration fee of $100. Over 40 race teams competed in the four events held in 2007. The remaining five micro sprint events will take place during the Enduro and Demolition Derby events held throughout the year.

Next on the list of small cars is the Keystone Legend Series. The Keystone Legends did visit NES for one event last year in the month of May. ‘07 Tour Champion Rodney Kistler was able to drive to victory lane in their lone appearance last season.

What’s got co-owner Bill Miscoski all pumped up is that the phones have been continuously ringing at the speedway. “We’ve gotten all kinds of phone calls about the legend cars that used to run at Wall Township Speedway. It’s unfortunate that they lost their home but we want them to know that they are all welcome with open arms to run with Klascar at New Egypt.”

Last but certainly not the least is the Xcel Chassis 600 Modified Series. This PA based series has taken off in a big way since it’s inception just a few short years ago. The roster grows by the day as many drivers are committing to the 600 modifieds as the season draws near. Doug Borger, the man responsible for the Xcel Series has been anticipating his debut in the Garden State. “We have a ton of drivers that are ready to go and are that are excited about bringing our series to New Egypt. We have some house cars that will most likely see some more familiar names behind the wheel of a 600 modified for the New Egypt fans. I’ve talked to Doug Manmiller, Jeff Strunk, and both Billy Pauch Jr. and Sr. about running some or our Sunday events at NES.”

The first of the seven-race series will take place on Sunday, April 13. Pit gates will open at 10:30 with racing starting at 1pm for ‘Small Car Sunday’ events. The micros, legends, and 600 modifieds will have the opportunity to be practice along with all the other divisions that regularly compete at New Egypt the day before the 13th. NES will host it’s annual practice day on Saturday, April 12. Gates open at 8am for tech as cars will take to the track at noon for practice.
