“Mark Your Calendar for the 10th Annual RJS 7 Golf Scramble”
What happens when you take the loudest sport and combine it with the quietest sport?  You get New Egypt Speedway’s Ron John Koczon’s annual golf fundraiser.  Mark your calendars for Friday, April 8 as this is one event that you certainly won’t want to miss.
For the 11th consecutive year Koczon with the help of his family, friends, sponsors, crew, and countless others will tee off at the Gambler Ridge Golf Club.  The ‘RJS 7 Golf Scramble’ is held each and every year as a fundraiser to help off-set some or the racing expenses that incur throughout the team’s season.  “I can’t thank everyone that is a part of this whole deal enough,” Koczon revealed.
Ron John is one of New Egypt’s own and it shows every Saturday when he hits the track.  “I have so many great fans that support me and I’m so thankful to have them in my corner.  I love racing at New Egypt and meeting all kinds of different people and hopefully making them not only my fans, but turning them into race fans in general.”
Last year Ron John Koczon finished 8th in the final point standings with one feature win.  That one feature win was certainly a memorable one as he took home top honors on Fourth of July Weekend in front of a packed NES crowd.  What made the moment even more special, was that he did it on his sponsor’s night at the speedway (H&H Gas).  If that wasn’t enough, Koczon held off the best in the business for over 20 laps in Billy Pauch and Jimmy Horton.  “I couldn’t have asked for that night to go any better.  It’s something I’ll never forget,” Koczon explained.
This year Koczon is ready for action.  “I’m really pumped up after this long, cold, and snowy winter.  I still have a lot work to do on the car but, we’ll get it done…we have to.”  Ron John was quick to point out his sponsors that have helped him over the past few years.  “Obviously Gambler Ridge Golf Club is a big help with everything they do.  H&H Gas has been really supportive of my efforts, which I’m really appreciative for.  Reid Sod Farm has been with me for a while now, and I can’t thank Randal Reid enough for all his help over the years.  J&C Campers along with Wawa Foods Stores who jumped on board help us out tremendously too.  And of course RJS Heating & Cooling which is our family business.
The Golf Scramble starts at 8am and goes throughout the day.  Hot Dogs, beer, and soda will be served throughout the scramble.  Following the golfing will be dinner in the banquet room.  There are plenty of prizes for the competitors to win throughout the day.  Numerous door prizes as well as a 50/50 prize will also be drawn at the end of the day for one lucky player.  Over 100 players sign in every year as part of the tournament.  As many as 140 played in the scramble a few years ago.
Koczon summarized everything by saying, “There are some really good golfers that come to play that day.  It’s a really neat deal to have everyone come together once a year and do something outside of racing.  We are always looking for hole sponsors and players, so if you want to have some fun come on out and join us.”
