NPR GEARS UP FOR OPENER AT BIG DIAMOND RACEWAY:
By Jim Evans Jr

Just a few days left in preparations to the 2007 TEO Bow Flex car Corey Renninger will be campaigning for the 2009 points campaign at Big Diamond Raceway and the car has taken a most certainly eye catching form. Kirk Strausse and his gang from Competition signs, Summit Station, PA stayed up all night long Wednesday night/Thursday morning putting the final touches on the Huber/Hartz re-shelled Sportsman as this admittedly unique and “best looking car to be released from Competition Signs to date” rolled out of the garage. The car colors this season appear to the naked eye to be a copper color with a deep purple airbrushed into the center of the copper. This paint, supplied to the team by Denny Sites of Schuylkill Haven Body & Fender is the type which changes color depending on how the light hits the car. The rustic copper changes into shades of red and orange while the purple turns from shades of purple and blue. Pictures of the art work Competition Signs performed on the car will soon be available on the Nightmare Performance Racing website located at
http://renningerracing.trackthunder.com and on the Track Thunder website located at www.trackthunder.com.
Sponsors and contributors to Nightmare Performance Racing for the 2009 racing season include: USS Achey’s Inc Iron & Metal Processors, JAISP Network, Detweiler’s 24 Hour Towing – Auto & Truck Repair, Black Diamond Construction Co., Deatrich Automotive, Hadesty’s Ace Hardware, Competition Signs, Rhino Linings, Road Hawgs Riders Club of Schuylkill County, Adult 61, Schuylkill Haven Body & Fender Inc, Denny’s Hot Rod Bar & Grill, PageWorkz Web Solutions, JR Trucking & Rigging, Achey’s Used Auto Parts, Subs & Such, Fran’s Auto Repair, Track Thunder.Com, and Flail Trucking. Nightmare Performance Racing has two Sportsman class motors available to them this season. The motor the team ran with in 2008 was refreshed and ready for 2009, and a new motor was built for 2009. Plans are in the works to purchase a 358 legal modified motor for the bigger races at the end of the season as well as perhaps a Crate1 motor for racing at the famed “Moody Mile” in Syracuse, PA for Super Dirt weeks. Whether these plans manifest themselves is contingent on a number of things coming together.
“It’s been a long and busy off-season” states team owner Corey Renninger who got married on February 21 with best men Dale “Hollywood” Hartz and John Deatrich Jr by his side to his long time childhood sweetheart Jolene Verdensky. “People don’t understand how much work goes into planning a wedding until they actually do it” continues Renninger who with his now wife by his side doing a grand share of the work put together this momentous occasion. “For a good month or two the car played second fiddle to my wedding because I wanted things perfect for our special day” stated Corey, “we also lost a month of preparation time more than we anticipated when we took the car down to Neil Huber’s to have a new body fabricated” he continues. “Truth is the car was at Neil’s for a body but Neil and Dale took the time to go over every component and they found a number of minor things which needed to be corrected so I can’t complain”. Corey continues, “I wish I could have made it to the 50 lapper to shake down the car for 2009 but I’d rather make sure the car is 100% ready and right for the 2009 season then to rush to get things done as we’ve done in the past only to have one small problem escalate into major problems we end up chasing throughout the season as we did last year”.
With a full crew of guys headed up by Tommy Langtry and Corey’s father Ken Renninger, Corey anticipates this being the best season in his six year Sportsman Modified career and looks to compete for the 2009 track championship. Racing is scheduled to begin on Sunday night at 5:00pm at Big Diamond Raceway and you can look for the “sharpest looking piece at Big Diamond” to be there looking to make an early statement.
