BIG DIAMOND HONORS MEMORIAL DAY WITH FAMILY PICNIC AND ENERGIZING RACING
By Gary Lileck

Forestville, PA - May 10, 2009 - During this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, Big Diamond Raceway is gearing up for a special event. On Sunday May 24, the 3/8 mile clay oval speedway presents exciting racing and a Memorial Weekend Picnic for the fans.

The track's three primary divisions are slated to compete in extra distance main events, containing an increased purse. The 358 Modified feature is 50-laps, paying a crisp $5000 to the event winner. The Sportsman drivers are contending in a 25-lap/$1000 to win feature. The Wooden Keg Roadrunner feature will be 15-laps, carrying a $300 top prize.

Middleswarth Potato Chips, Philly Pretzel Factory, and Pepsi have committed their involvement to the first ever Big Diamond Raceway Memorial Weekend Family Picnic. Your admission to the speedway on May 24 will include food at this outdoor social gathering. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $18 for students/seniors.military, and $5 for children ages 6-12.

On this evening, the speedway will honor its racing family, who have passed away during the years. All drivers, owners, crew members, track officials, and dedicated racing fans will be observed. As a matter of fact, track announcer Mark Garman is in the process of creating a special program book, showing much respect to our fallen members of the racing family. The fans may get involved by purchasing an ad at a reasonable fee. For more information, feel free to contact Mark at polekat39@excite.com

A Chad Miller Hard Charger Memorial Award will be presented after the 50-lap 358 Modified feature. Chad was a young man devoted to auto racing as a crew member of the Glenn Hyneman 126 team. He sadly lost his life in a highway automobile accident in 2007. The driver that advances the most positions from his original starting spot will receive the award. 50 percent of the award goes to the hard charger and the other 50 percent will go to the scholarship fund that supports a graduating senior from Berks Career Technology Center for further electrical education.

A Cash Dash will be presented in memory of Rocky Bair.

Fans are reminded that the USAC National Sprint Cars are making their third annual visit to Big Diamond on Thursday June 4 along with the first ever competition start of the Tobias Speedstrs. Tickets will be on sale beginning on the May 24 Memorial Day Weekend show for a price of $25.

On May 24, warm-ups are slated to begin at 6:15PM, and qualifying takes place at 7:00PM. For more information on the speedway, visit their website at www.bigdiamondraceway.com.
