WORLD OF OUTLAW LATE MODELS HOPING FOR A NICE WEATHER FORECAST THIS WEDNESDAY AT BIG DIAMOND RACEWAY
By GARY LILECK

Forestville, PA - June 21, 2009 - Weather has been the deciding factor recently at Big Diamond Raceway. Three of the last four Friday evening programs have been canceled due to rain. The speedway hopes for nicer weather this Wednesday June 24, as the World of Outlaw Late Models return for their second ever venture to the three-eighth's mile clay oval.

The "Great Northern Tour" stops in Forestville PA, and Jack Rich Inc. (Frackville) will present the Coal Country 40 for the World of Outlaw Late Models. The tour is actually a ten-race series which began this past Thursday night in Ontario Canada. The winner of this year's 40-lap main event earns $7000 and wears the coal miner's helmet in victory lane.

Darrell Lanigan (Union KY) is the defending BDR race winner and shares a talented WoO diver's list including: Josh Richards (Shinnston WV), Brady Smith (Solon Springs WI), Tim Fuller (Watertown NY), Shane Clanton (Locust Grove CA), Steve Francis (Ashland KY), and Clint Smith (Senoia GA) among others. Kenny Schrader (Concord NC) will also test his talents against the outlaws.

Rick Eckert (York) is cosidered a 'local' racer on the WoO Late Model tour. A well-established field of PA drivers are expected in the pit area for Wednesday's program. Dan Stone (Thompson) showcased his skills against the Outlaws in Ontario this past Thursday night as he scored an impressive top five finish. Jeff Rine (Danville) is a six-time feature winner this season, and has mentioned that he will attend the Coal Country 40 race.

Three of the PA drivers hold extended experience at BDR and will utilize that past knowledge in their efforts this Wednesday. Scotty Haus (Hamburg) has 28 career Big Diamond feature wins (22-Limited Late Model, 5-358 Modified, 1-URC Sprint-Car), and was the 1980/81 LLM track champion. Jason Miller (Germansville) began his career at this speedway and was a three-time Roadrunner feature winner in 1995.

Veteran car racer and builder Jimmy Bernheisel (Jonestown) is looking forward to his return at Big Diamond. Jimmy has a selected schedule for this season which he calls the '2009 semi-retirement tour'. Bernheisel's traditional #119 Late Models raced regularly at the speedway in the early 80s. His son Bryan Bernheisel is also expected in the field this Wednesday.

On Wednesday June 24, pit gates open at 4:00PM, grandstands gates open at 5:00PM, and racing begins at 7:00PM. Admission to the stands is $25. Kids age 12 and under are admitted free. There are no advance ticket sales for this event. Pit passes are available for $30 to BDR license holders and $35 for others.

Special VIP tickets are still available for the private meet and greet with NASCAR star Ken Schrader. The $100 ticket allows a early gate entry to the event and also covers your admission to the pits and allows you to partake in the private meet and greet. A limited number of tickets are still available by calling the speedway business office at 570-385-0744.
