Gular Takes Over Fasnacht 358-Modified For 2009; Late-Season '08 Starts Planned
GREEN LANE, PA - When one door closes, another one opens.
The 2008 season has been filled with frustration for Mike Gular. But the second-generation driver is ready for a new beginning with Terry Fasnacht's 358-Modified race team.
Gular has been named the driver of Fasnacht's equipment for the 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series 358-Modified season at Grandview Speedway.
Fasnacht parted ways with Danny Erb - his driver of six seasons - following the Sept. 20 final points event at Grandview. Erb had been Fasnacht's only driver since he formed his team in 2003.
"I'm looking forward to getting started with Terry," offered Gular, 25. "All the conversations I've had with him have been positive."
Fasnacht, the owner of Conestoga Valley Custom Kitchens in Narvon, Pa., and a partner in Gold Rush Custom Trailers, has given Gular the go-ahead to run some late-season '08 races in his equipment.
"Terry wants me to run a few races in his car this year," Gular said. "We're working on some of those details right now."
Fasnacht currently owns two Teo-Pro cars with Larry Lombardo power. The equipment will be housed in Gular's Harleysville, Pa., shop.
Aside from weekly Grandview competition next season, there is a possibility that the team could add Friday nights to its schedule. Firm plans will be formulated in the near future.
"Everything should fall into place in the next few weeks," Gular affirmed.
Fasnacht made the move from a sponsor of Bill Devine's race team to an owner for the '03 season. Erb won a race in his car during the 2005 season and finished a best of fourth in the '06 points standings.
Gular, the '07 Penn-Can (Pa.) Speedway champion, has three career Grandview victories - the most recent of which came on April 12 of this year while driving the S&N Racing No. 8.
Gular and the S&N team split in early-August and he had been running his own equipment in select races since that point.
