Kratz Readies For 20th Anniversary Season With JSG Motorsports
BECHTELSVILLE, PA - Twenty years can pass by quickly.
Just ask Kerry Kratz.
The 40-year-old from Bechtelsville, Pa., will kick off his 20th season of competition Saturday (April 4) in Grandview Speedway's 47th Season Opener for NASCAR Whelen All-American Series 358-Modifieds. Kratz will race weekly at Grandview for the 19th straight season in 2009.
"It doesn't seem that long ago," reflected Kratz, who began his career at the now-defunct Flemington (N.J.) Speedway in 1989. "It all goes by so fast."
Kratz enters his second season driving for Jeremy Goetter's JSG Motorsports operation. The team purchased a 2009 Teo-Pro car over the off-season, with a fresh small-block engine built by Morrison Performance of Fulton, N.Y.
Sponsorship support for the No. 87 comes from B&R Packaging (Souderton, Pa.), Jeff's Auto Services (Macungie, Pa.), Longswamp Automotive (Longswamp, Pa.), Star Powdercoating (Hereford, Pa.), Total Performance Collision (Breinigsville, Pa.), Hoffman Bros. Speed & Performance (New Tripoli, Pa.), Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Penske Racing Shocks, S & L Fasteners, ISC Racers Tape, Morrison Performance, Joe Adams Lettering LLC and Brett Deyo Motorsports Media.
Kratz owns 14 career 358-Modified victories at Grandview, the most significant coming in 1994 when he won the prestigious $10,000 Forrest Rogers Memorial at the Bechtelsville, Pa., one-third-mile oval.
In 2008, Kratz earned a season-high finish of second on May 31 - one of eight top-five finishes - and placed 10th in the NASCAR 358-Modified standings. He looks to improve on that effort in '09.
"So much of racing is luck," Kratz said. "We had a good year going last year and the month of August killed us. We'll go out there, do the best we can and hope the breaks go our way."
Grandview's lid-lifter features a 40-lap, $3,000-to-win event for 358-Modifieds. Kratz was fourth in that event last year.
